Two men have been arrested and charged after a stolen car was allegedly used to ram raid a Co-op in a Scots town. Emergency services were called to a property in the West Garleton area of Haddington, East Lothian, at 1.40pm on Saturday, July 2, following reports of a car theft.
Police were then alerted to a housebreaking at the Co-op on High Street in Gullane, where the stolen vehicle was used to smash into the premises. Officers attended and confirmed that nothing was taken from the store. The stolen car was later traced in Musselburgh on Wednesday, July 8.
Arrests and Charges
Two men, aged 29 and 56, were arrested and charged in connection with the incidents. They were released from custody on an undertaking to appear before Edinburgh Sheriff Court at a later date. Images from the scene showed the Co-op's front door hanging away from its frame and windows destroyed, with the shop front smashed. No injuries were reported.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Two men have been arrested and charged following two housebreakings in East Lothian. The first incident occurred around 1.40am on Saturday, 4 July, 2026 where a property was broken into in the West Garleton area of Haddington, which resulted in a car being stolen from outside. The second incident occurred around 3.20am where the stolen vehicle was involved in a housebreaking at a premises in High Street Gullane. Nothing was taken during the second incident, and the stolen vehicle was subsequently traced in the Musselburgh area on Wednesday, 8 July, 2026. Two men, aged 29 and 56, were arrested and charged in connection and released on an undertaking to appear before Edinburgh Sheriff Court at a later date."
