A 37-year-old man has been charged following an alleged assault that left a 20-year-old man with life-threatening injuries in New Quay, West Wales. The incident occurred on Margaret Street leading to Uplands Square at approximately 12:51 am on Saturday, July 4, 2026.
Charges and Court Appearance
Ciaran McConnell, from New Quay, has been charged with grievous bodily harm with intent and possession of an offensive weapon in a public place. He remains in police custody and is scheduled to appear at Haverfordwest Magistrates Court on Monday, July 6, 2026. A 59-year-old man has also been arrested on suspicion of assault and has been bailed pending further enquiries.
Victim's Condition
The 20-year-old victim sustained serious, life-threatening injuries and was initially taken to hospital in a critical condition. In an update issued late on Sunday, Dyfed-Powys Police confirmed that the victim's condition is now stable. A police spokesperson stated: "A 20-year-old man sustained serious injuries and remains in hospital in a serious but stable condition."
Police Appeal for Witnesses
Investigating officers are appealing for anyone with doorbell, CCTV, or other security camera footage from the area between 12:50 am and 5:20 am on Saturday, July 4, to come forward. A Dyfed-Powys Police spokesperson said: "Any witnesses, or anyone with any information is also asked to get in touch with us quoting reference DP-20260704-028.
