Man Dies at Aberavon Beach After Sea Incident on Hottest Day

A 50-year-old man from Cilfrew, Neath Port Talbot, has died at Aberavon Beach after suffering a medical emergency in the sea on Wednesday June 24, the hottest day of the year.

Emergency Response

Police and paramedics were called to Aberavon Beach at approximately 4.25pm following reports of a man requiring medical assistance after entering the water. An air ambulance and the Welsh Ambulance Service also attended.

The HM Coastguard performed CPR on the man until the arrival of the air ambulance and paramedics. Despite their efforts, he was pronounced dead at the scene at 4.50pm.

Police Statement

A spokesperson for South Wales Police said: "Officers were called to Aberavon Beach at around 4.25pm yesterday (Wednesday June 24) following a report of a man requiring medical assistance having entered the water. The Coastguard commenced CPR until the arrival of the air ambulance and paramedics. Despite the medical professionals' best efforts, the man - a 50-year-old man from Cilfrew, Neath Port Talbot - was pronounced dead at the scene at 4.50pm."

Next of kin has been informed. The death is not being treated as suspicious, police confirmed.
