Levi Bellfield's 'Hard Man' Image Shattered by Allergic Reaction to Face Cream
Bellfield's allergic reaction to face cream exposed in prison

Notorious serial killer Levi Bellfield has been treated in a prison hospital for a severe allergic reaction, an incident that has exposed his attempts to maintain a 'hard man' facade behind bars.

Severe Reaction Triggers Prison Emergency

The 57-year-old murderer, serving a whole-life order at HMP Frankland in County Durham, suffered a 'severe reaction' to a coconut-based face moisturiser. Sources told The Sun that Bellfield began to 'struggle for breath' and itch all over, prompting guards to declare a Code Blue emergency – a signal used for serious incidents like an attack.

After being administered antihistamines, Bellfield allegedly concocted a story for fellow inmates. Instead of admitting the reaction was caused by a beauty product, he claimed it was triggered by eating a Bounty chocolate bar, which contains coconut. A source said: 'Everyone thought it was funny that a supposed tough guy like him was struck down so severely.'

Life Behind Bars at 'Monster Mansion'

Levi Bellfield, who now goes by the name Yusuf Rahim after converting to Islam, is one of Britain's most reviled criminals. He is serving whole-life sentences for the murders of 13-year-old Milly Dowler, 19-year-old Marsha McDonnell, and 22-year-old Amélie Delagrange, as well as the attempted murder of Kate Sheedy.

As an 'enhanced' prisoner, Bellfield enjoys certain privileges at the Category A jail, nicknamed 'Monster Mansion'. These include:

  • A cooked breakfast every Saturday with halal options.
  • £33 per week to spend in the prison canteen, compared to the standard £19.80.
  • Access to an Xbox for playing non-violent games like sports titles.

A prison source expressed unease, stating: 'Bellfield isn’t a problem on the unit, but it just doesn’t feel quite right that a man in for his crimes should be playing Xbox computer games.'

Notorious Inmates and Institutional Tensions

HMP Frankland houses some of the UK's most dangerous criminals. Fellow inmates include Wayne Couzens, the former police officer who murdered Sarah Everard, Soham killer Ian Huntley, and Grindr murderer Stephen Port.

The incident with Bellfield's allergic reaction has highlighted the ongoing tensions and dark humour within the prison walls. The source added that some staff and inmates remarked 'it was a shame it wasn't more serious.' The Ministry of Justice declined to comment when approached about the incident.
