Woman in 70s dies after collision in Wigan

A woman aged in her 70s has died after a collision in Wigan. Greater Manchester Police (GMP) said she was driving on Walthew House Lane, near the junction with Spring Road, when she is believed to have suffered a medical episode at the wheel.

The car she was in then came to a stop. GMP said the woman, who has not been named, was taken to hospital for treatment, where she later died.

Police appeal for witnesses

Officers were called to reports of a road traffic collision at 9.53am on Tuesday 8 September 2026. The force has issued an appeal for witnesses or anyone with information to come forward.

In a statement, GMP said: "At 9.53am on Tuesday 8 September 2026, officers were called to a road traffic collision involving a car that was believed to be driving along Walthew House Lane, near to junction with Spring Road.

"It is believed the driver, a woman in her 70s, suffered a medical episode before the vehicle came to a stop. She was taken to hospital for treatment where she sadly died. Officers from our Serious Collision Investigations Unit (SCIU) are appealing for anyone with dashcam footage or CCTV to assist with their enquiries."
