Nicholas Prosper Receives Whole Life Sentence for Brutal Murder of Wife in North London
Whole life sentence for North London murderer

Nicholas Prosper, 52, has been sentenced to a whole life term for the savage killing of his wife, Carole Prosper, in their North London residence. The Old Bailey heard harrowing details of the attack, which prosecutors described as a 'prolonged and merciless' assault.

Mr Justice Bryan told the court: 'This was an exceptionally brutal murder involving sustained violence against a vulnerable victim in her own home.' The judge emphasised that the severity of the crime warranted the rare whole life order, meaning Prosper will never be released from prison.

Chilling Details Emerge

During the sentencing hearing, prosecutors revealed that:

  • The attack occurred in the couple's Edmonton home in February 2023
  • Carole suffered multiple injuries from various weapons
  • Neighbours reported hearing screams but didn't intervene
  • Prosper called emergency services hours after the killing

A Life Cut Short

Carole Prosper, 49, was described by relatives as 'a kind-hearted woman who devoted her life to helping others'. She had worked as a healthcare assistant at North Middlesex Hospital for over a decade.

The Metropolitan Police's Detective Chief Inspector, leading the investigation, stated: 'This was a horrific domestic violence case that has devastated an entire family and community.'

Rare Sentence Imposed

Whole life orders are reserved for the most serious murder cases in England and Wales. Currently, fewer than 70 prisoners are serving such sentences in the UK.

The judge concluded that Prosper's actions demonstrated 'a complete lack of remorse' and that public protection required his permanent incarceration.
