Police were called to a house on Horseferry Road in Westminster yesterday morning following reports that a baby had fallen from a height. The newborn baby girl was rushed to hospital but was devastatingly pronounced dead shortly after arrival. Officers arrested the woman at the scene, and she remains in police custody as investigations continue.
Forensic teams were active at the location, with an officer in a blue forensics suit seen in a grey van parked down the road, which was temporarily closed to traffic. Two forensic officers were observed working in a third-floor flat on Saturday evening, and a forensic investigator was later seen at the window of the property.

This morning, mourners laid flowers, including tulips and roses, along with a soft toy animal near the Peabody Estate building in a heartfelt tribute to the infant. The police cordon that had covered most of Great Peter Street, just off Horseferry Road, has now been lifted, though officers remain present at the scene.
Detective Chief Inspector Alison Foxwell described the death of a baby as 'always an extremely tragic occurrence' and confirmed that officers are making urgent inquiries into the circumstances. She stated, 'At this stage we believe the incident occurred within a domestic context, but we are appealing for anybody with information to come forward.'
A spokesperson for the London Ambulance Service reported that the baby received treatment at the scene before being transported to a major trauma centre. Police are urging anyone who witnessed the incident to call 101, quoting reference 1596/14MAR, to assist with the ongoing investigation.
