Van Plunges Off South Shields Cliff, Man Dead

A man in his 20s has tragically died after a van went over a cliff in the Marsden area of South Shields. The incident occurred on Wednesday morning, prompting a multi-agency emergency response.

Emergency Services Respond

Northumbria Police received a report of a concern for welfare near the A183 Coast Road in South Shields at around 6am. According to a police spokesperson, a van had left the road and plunged onto the beach below, with one person believed to be inside. Emergency services are in attendance, and enquiries are ongoing.

The North East Ambulance Service dispatched a clinical team leader and an ambulance crew to the scene. Other responding agencies included the Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue Service, HM Coastguard, and Tynemouth RNLI. The RNLI confirmed they launched a lifeboat as part of the multi-agency call.
