Rory McIlroy resumed his preparations for the US PGA Championship on Wednesday morning, appearing to move freely despite recent toe troubles that had caused him to limp earlier in the week.
The 37-year-old Northern Irishman, aiming to secure back-to-back major titles at Aronimink Golf Club in southwest Philadelphia, cut short his practice round on Tuesday after just a few holes. During that session, he was seen removing his shoe, having disclosed during last week's Truist Championship that he was dealing with a blister on the little toe of his right foot.
Reports indicate that McIlroy tore off the nail earlier this week, which had visibly hampered his movement on Tuesday. However, on Wednesday, he arrived at the course shortly after 9 a.m. local time (2 p.m. BST), first working on the putting green before heading to the practice range.
He then began a practice round on the 10th hole, joined by former champion Padraig Harrington, Ryder Cup teammate Shane Lowry, and Spanish golfer Angel Ayora. McIlroy appeared in high spirits, laughing when a spectator praised his cameo in The Devil Wears Prada 2, and notably showed no signs of limping as he moved around the course.
McIlroy is scheduled to begin his quest for a seventh major title on Thursday at 8:40 a.m. local time (1:40 p.m. BST), playing alongside Jon Rahm and Jordan Spieth.
