Two people have been killed and three others injured in a shooting at a shopping centre in Carrollton, Texas, a suburb north of Dallas, leaving the local community in shock. The incident occurred on Wednesday, according to police reports.
Details of the Incident
Police were called to the shopping complex following reports of gunfire. Officers arrived to find five people shot. Two victims were pronounced dead at the scene, while three others were transported to nearby hospitals with injuries that are not life-threatening. All injured individuals are currently in stable condition.
The suspect, identified as 69-year-old Seung Han Ho, fled the scene but was apprehended by police after a short chase approximately four miles away at a grocery store. Authorities confirmed that Ho knew both of the deceased victims. Carrollton Police Chief Roberto Arredondo stated, “It was a known business relationship. We’re still trying to work to identify what caused his actions.”
Investigation and Community Reaction
Law enforcement, including armed officers and agents from the FBI, have been collecting evidence in the carpark of the shopping centre. Police were also present at a nearby apartment complex where Ho was listed as having recently lived, although neighbours said they did not recognise the name.
The shooting has deeply affected the local Korean American community, which is substantial in Carrollton. According to the US Census Bureau, the city is home to more than 4,000 residents of Korean descent. John Jun, an active member of the Korean American community, expressed shock, saying, “We’re not immune to something like this happening, but we are very generally a peaceful community that works hard.”
Carrollton, located 20 miles north of Dallas, has grown into a thriving Koreatown over the past two decades, featuring businesses such as H Mart and numerous restaurants offering Korean cuisine. The area is also home to multiple Korean churches, from Baptist to Presbyterian.
The investigation is ongoing, and authorities are working to determine a motive for the shooting. The suspect is in custody, and charges are pending.
