Trump airport flights halted after suspicious call

Flights at President Donald J. Trump International Airport in Florida were slowed as a precaution on Sunday after authorities investigated a suspicious phone call, hours before Donald Trump was due to depart.

The airport confirmed that law enforcement began investigating the call at around 1.23pm on Sunday afternoon. Officials warned that travellers could face delays while the investigation was underway.

Investigation and Precautionary Measures

"Law enforcement is investigating a suspicious phone call. As a precaution, PBSO has slowed traffic entering the terminal," officials wrote on X. The nature of the call was not disclosed.

"If you see something, say something. Report suspicious activity to law enforcement. Thanks for your patience & cooperation," the statement continued.

Operations Resume

Around an hour later, at 2.30pm, officials confirmed that routes to the terminal had reopened and airport operations had returned to normal. "Thank you for your patience and understanding," the airport wrote.

The president remained in West Palm Beach on Sunday and was scheduled to depart later that day, according to local outlet WJAC.

Airport Background

In the year to August, more than 8.6 million passengers passed through the airport in Palm Beach, which is near the president's South Florida home base at Mar-a-Lago.

The travel hub was renamed this year after the Trump Organization filed trademark applications for potential names, including "President Donald J. Trump International Airport" and "DJT" for short.

Florida House Democratic Leader Fentrice Driskell said the move would cost taxpayers $5m (£3.78 million). "Your money is being misused to celebrate the man who caused gas prices to rise to over four dollars a gallon, grocery costs to shoot up, and health care prices to spike," Driskell said in a statement obtained by US media. "Republicans are out of touch when it comes to the real issues impacting Floridians."

The president's son Eric Trump praised the move, writing on social media: "Palm Beach International Airport is now officially…. 'President Donald J. Trump International Airport!' Proud to have played a small role in making this happen."
