Heartfelt tributes are pouring in for 16-year-old Chloe Watson, who tragically died after allegedly being stabbed in the back following a dispute over a boy. The victim was discovered unresponsive in the quiet Austhorpe suburb of Leeds, West Yorkshire, just before 6am on Saturday morning.
Neighbours' Desperate Attempts to Save Her
Despite the best efforts of neighbours who rushed to her aid, performing CPR on the pavement, Chloe was pronounced dead shortly after paramedics transported her to hospital. One man who assisted in the rescue attempt described how she had been 'stabmed in the back' and noted there was 'quite a bit of blood.'
Family's Heartbreaking Fundraiser
An online fundraiser established by a relative has already raised more than £11,000 to help give Chloe 'the best send-off possible.' In a poignant message, her cousin revealed that Chloe's 'life was sadly taken in tragedy, 16 years young, didn't even make it to her 18th, her whole life was taken in a flash over a boy.'
The relative added emotionally: 'She didn't deserve this. She was so full of life. Such an innocent beautiful soul taken too soon.'
Four Arrests Made in Connection
West Yorkshire Police have confirmed that four individuals - two women aged 18, a man aged 19, and a 17-year-old boy - were all arrested from a nearby address on suspicion of murder. All remain in custody as investigations continue.
Scene of the Tragedy
Officers were called to Kennerleigh Avenue at 5.55am on Saturday, 28 March. This quiet street of bungalows in Austhorpe is typically populated by elderly residents seeking a peaceful retirement. The area has now been transformed by the tragedy, with floral tributes accumulating at both the scene and outside Chloe's mother's home in Cleckheaton, approximately 13 miles away.
One touching message left with flowers read: 'To my beautiful girl... rest easy my Chloe. Love you forever my crazy girl.'
Eyewitness Account of the Rescue Attempt
Neighbour Wayne Mallows, 64, described how he was called from his home around 5.50am by a dog walker who reported another neighbour performing CPR on a young girl. Mr Mallows took over the resuscitation efforts until paramedics arrived approximately ten minutes later.
'She had been stabbed in the back and there was quite a bit of blood,' Mr Mallows recalled. 'Her eyes were just blank. To me she looked very young, younger than 16.'
The retired resident added that he is struggling to erase the image of Chloe's face from his mind, noting she was wearing a 'blouse with a little beige coat over it, and a dress and she had thick socks on.'
Police Investigation Underway
Detective Chief Superintendent Marc Bowes, the senior investigating officer, described the case as 'very complex' and has appealed for witnesses who were in the Kennerleigh Avenue area during the early hours of Saturday morning to come forward.
'Following our appeal for further information yesterday, we have now identified the deceased as a 16-year-old girl from the Cleckheaton area,' DCS Bowes stated. 'Her family have been informed and we are supporting them as they try to come to terms with what has happened.'
Community in Mourning
Specialist forensic officers have sealed off the road for examination as the murder inquiry progresses. Meanwhile, extensive tributes have flooded social media platforms including Facebook and TikTok.
One online tribute read: 'Rest in eternal peace beautiful girl, u was loved by many and gunna be missed forever.' Another mourner wrote: 'Your bubbly personality, your weird laugh, your cringy jokes will forever be unmatched. You always made sure everyone was feeling litty and loved…it's truly devastating.'
At Chloe's mother's home, a man who answered the door was reportedly too upset to comment, with the family being supported by specially trained police officers during this devastating time.
