Three Juveniles Arrested in Austin Random Shootings

Officials in Austin, Texas, confirmed that three young individuals have been taken into custody following a series of at least 10 random shootings that resulted in four injuries over the weekend. The incidents, which occurred from Saturday afternoon to Sunday morning, involved the suspects driving around the city in stolen vehicles and firing at multiple locations, including two fire stations, apartment buildings, and houses, according to Austin Police Chief Lisa Davis.

Arrests and Investigation

Two boys, aged 15 and 17, were apprehended after being pulled over in a stolen car and attempting to flee. A third juvenile, who had been in the same vehicle, was detained later on Sunday night at a gas station in Manor, approximately 15 miles (24 kilometers) northeast of Austin. Police have not disclosed the age or further details of the third suspect.

Chief Davis revealed that the firearm used in the shootings had been previously stolen by the 15-year-old, and the 17-year-old was already wanted for a separate firearm theft. The suspects are believed to have stolen at least four vehicles during their spree.

Shelter-in-Place Order

The city issued a shelter-in-place order for a large portion of southern Austin while authorities searched for the suspects. The order was lifted after two individuals were taken into custody. Four victims were transported to hospitals, one of whom sustained critical injuries.

Mayor Kirk Watson stated that no specific motive has been identified, describing the actions as seemingly random. The investigation remains ongoing.
