Ten Arrested in Newcastle Police Operation Targeting Drugs

Ten people were arrested in Newcastle as Northumbria Police executed Operation Impact, a robust approach against anti-social behaviour and serious violence. The operation involved raids in Byker, Walker, and the city centre on July 3, 2026.

Early Morning Raids and Arrests

Two early-morning warrants were executed simultaneously at addresses in Byker, where three people were arrested on suspicion of drug-related offences. They have since been released on bail pending further enquiries. Throughout the day, police arrested a further seven people wanted for burglary and drug supply.

Partnership with Local Authorities

Officers joined Newcastle City Council’s Trading Standards and Licensing teams for visits to premises in Byker and Heaton. Hundreds of packets of illicit cigarettes and various cannabis products were seized with the help of sniffer dog “Boo”. Plain-clothed patrols targeted anti-social behaviour hot spots linked to illegal motorcycle and e-scooter use, and a knife arch was deployed at Byker Metro station with support from Nexus.

Police and Community Response

Newcastle Neighbourhood Chief Inspector Dean Hood said: “This is what policing is about – everyone coming together to address issues that matter most to the people we serve. Serious violence and anti-social behaviour have no place in our communities. We will deploy every tactic available to us to bring this offending to a stop and keep people safe.”

Owen Burbidge, Cabinet Member for Inclusive Economy and Skills, added: “Joint operations such as this are designed to disrupt criminal activity and put the fear where it belongs back on the criminal. Ten arrests and large seizures of illegal vapes and tobacco will send a strong message that together we will not tolerate criminals.”

The operation also involved the Dog and Mounted Sections and marine officers patrolling the River Tyne.
