Priest Accused of Axe Attack and Burning Homeless Man Alive

A former Polish parish priest, identified by local media as Mirosław M., has been accused of killing 68-year-old Anatol C. with 'particular cruelty' by attacking him with an axe and then setting him on fire while he was still alive. The incident occurred on a country road near the village of Lasopol in July 2025, according to Polish publication Super Express.

Dispute Over Apartment Leads to Fatal Attack

Prosecutors allege that the two men, who had known each other for about 25 years, argued over a promise by the priest to buy or rent Anatol an apartment in Warsaw. The dispute escalated after they pulled over on a quiet roadside, where Mirosław allegedly grabbed an axe from his car and repeatedly struck Anatol in the head before dousing him in petrol and setting him alight. An autopsy revealed devastating head injuries and burns covering approximately 80% of the victim's body.

Priest Admits to Killing, Faces Life Sentence

The former priest reportedly admitted to the killing during questioning and provided a detailed account of the attack. Investigators also allege that Mirosław attempted to kill Anatol weeks earlier, on June 5, 2025, by striking him on the head after asking him to check a car engine. That attack was interrupted by a passing witness. Psychiatric experts have found the former priest sane and fit to stand trial. He faces charges of murder with particular cruelty and attempted murder, and could spend the rest of his life in prison if convicted.
