Teens in 'Fully Armored' Attack on San Diego Mosque

Two teenage assailants, aged 17 and 18, carried out a mass shooting at the Islamic Center of San Diego, California, rushing toward the mosque 'fully armored' with handguns and rifles, authorities confirmed.

Heroic Security Guard and Victims

A security guard, Amin Abdullah, shot and struck one of the shooters but was killed. 'If it was not for him... The carnage would be much worse,' said Imam Taha Hassane. 'He sacrificed his life.' Two other victims, Mansour Kaziha and Nadir Awad, were on the phone calling police when they were killed. The Islamic Center has initiated a fundraiser for the families of the 'three heroes martyred.'

Shooters' Background and Investigation

The shooters met and were radicalized online, according to the FBI. Investigators uncovered a 'manifesto' expressing broad hatred toward various races and religions. They also found 30 firearms, a crossbow, tactical gear, and electronics at two residences. The firearms used were registered to one of the shooters' parents. Authorities have identified the suspects as Cain Clark, 17, and Caleb Vazquez, 18, though official naming is pending.

Police Response and Community Impact

Police found the shooters dead from self-inflicted gunshot wounds near the mosque. Five public schools nearby were placed on lockdown. The Islamic Center practices active-shooter drills several times a year, which Imam Hassane credits with saving lives: 'The lives of the kids were saved.' The investigation is ongoing, with the FBI seeking more information on motives.
