The dramatic moment a trio of teenage boys jumped fences and fled to a walking trail after allegedly stealing a car has been caught on camera by a police chopper.
Incident Details
Police, who were parked at Cuthbert Road in Reservoir, Melbourne, saw a speeding Toyota Prado driving with no headlights at about 4.25am on Saturday. The air wing was called in to observe the car as it travelled through Reservoir’s back streets and eventually stopped at a dead end on Barry Street.
Footage Shows Escape
A trio could be seen in black-and-white chopper footage fleeing the vehicle and jumping several fences. When they reached Edwards Creek Walking Trail, police allege they began dumping items while the aircraft watched from overhead.
Police searched the wooded area and found all three of the young men – a 16-year-old and two 17-year-olds from the Yarra area. In the aerial footage, two officers could be seen walking over as the trio lay on the ground. It also showed police approaching two machetes, allegedly thrown into nearby shrubs.
Charges Filed
Police allege the Prado was stolen from a Fitzroy address on Friday. All three teenagers have been charged with theft of a motor vehicle and possession of a prohibited weapon (machete). One of the 17-year-olds and the 16-year-old were also charged with breach of bail. They will all appear before a Children’s Court at a later date.
