An 18-year-old motorcyclist from Dublin has awoken from a two-week coma to discover his left leg was amputated following a horrific hit-and-run crash. Shaun Narloch was struck by a car while riding home to Finglas on Easter Monday, April 6, 2026. The driver, believed to be in a white Renault Kaptur with a black roof, fled the scene and remains at large.
The Incident
Shaun was on his way home from work when the collision occurred on Santry Avenue in Ballymun around 10:00 PM. He was rushed to Mater Misericordiae University Hospital, where he was placed in an induced coma for two weeks. His left leg was amputated due to kidney failure, severe muscle damage, and sepsis. His right leg also suffered severe injuries, requiring surgery and orthopaedic plates for a shattered ankle.
Family's Ordeal
Shaun's mother, Aga Narloch, recounted the harrowing moments after the crash. She was preparing for bed when her husband received a call from Shaun's best friend about a serious accident. At the hospital, she waited three hours before surgeons informed her of her son's critical condition. "On April 17, I saw my child lying in bed with no leg. Believe me, there is nothing worse in a parent's life," she said.
A Positive Outlook
Despite the trauma, Shaun has shown remarkable resilience. "When Shaun woke up, he was very confused and couldn't remember the accident. His memory suffered, and he can't even recall Christmas. But mentally, he is doing amazingly. He said, 'Mummy, I don't care about the leg. I am alive. God saved me. I am not paralysed,'" his mother shared. Shaun prays daily and remains grateful for his life.
Fundraising for a Prosthetic Leg
Aga has launched a GoFundMe campaign to raise €50,000 (approximately £43,000) for a C-Leg 4 Microprocessor prosthetic leg. So far, nearly €10,000 (£8,700) has been raised. The family hopes this will allow Shaun to walk again and live a more normal life. "Life is very short and may change within a split second. But you need to be strong, fight, and never give up," Aga added.
Police Appeal
Gardaí in Ballymun are appealing for witnesses. The vehicle involved is described as a white or cream Renault Kaptur with a black roof. Anyone with dash-cam footage or information from between 10:00 PM and 10:30 PM on April 6 is urged to come forward. The investigation continues as the driver remains at large.
