Boxing legend Sugar Ray Leonard has made a series of shocking allegations against his youngest son, Daniel Leonard, following an attempted break-in at the family home. On Wednesday, TMZ reported that Daniel Ray Leonard, 25, was taken from the property in a police car after violating a restraining order.
Details of the Incident
The report alleges that Daniel tried to enter the residence by turning exterior door handles, though it remains unclear if he gained entry. The LAPD confirmed that Daniel violated a restraining order on Wednesday. However, Los Angeles County Court documents obtained by the New York Post reveal that Sugar Ray filed for another restraining order later that day.
Shocking Claims in Court Documents
In the filing, the boxing legend claimed his son is an addict and a thief who steals every day. In a handwritten declaration, Sugar Ray wrote: 'He has overdosed four times. They had to bring him back to life twice at the hospital! He has stolen extreme amounts of money and valuable items! He steals every day for years! My son Daniel Leonard has been a drug addict for seven or eight years at least. His behavior has gotten worse over the years!'
Sugar Ray also alleged two separate incidents this month led to the restraining order request. The first occurred at his Pacific Palisades home on May 19. 'We had a physical altercation where he pushed me and got ugly! The police officers were needed at that moment! They came and Daniel was escorted off our property,' he wrote.
He claims a temporary restraining order was granted, but the very next day, Daniel attempted to enter the family home, leading to his arrest. 'I love my son but he has become a danger not only to himself but to his family! My wife is extremely afraid along with my daughter Camille! His behavior has gotten worse every day. We haven't had a day of peace in nine years, which is the reality of his addiction! Scared for my family!'
Court Rulings and Hearings
According to the New York Post, a judge swiftly granted Sugar Ray's request, ordering Daniel to stay at least 100 yards away from his father and wife Bernadette Robi. The restraining order runs until June 15, when a hearing will discuss a more permanent resolution. Meanwhile, jail records show a hearing on Daniel's alleged restraining violation is scheduled for June 25.
Family Background
Daniel is the youngest son of Sugar Ray Leonard and his second wife Bernadette Robi, and his fourth son overall. Sugar Ray, now 70, had his first son Ray Jr. with his first wife Juanita Wilkinson in 1973, then a daughter Camille with Bernadette. They later had two more sons, Jarrel and Daniel. Their family life has remained private despite the boxing legend's fame.
In February 2025, Bernadette posted a cryptic Instagram caption alongside a photo of Sugar Ray and Daniel: 'Happy Valentine's to my hearts!!! Love you both beyond and we will get through this faze.'
Sugar Ray still lives on a luxurious $46.5 million estate in the exclusive Upper Riviera area of Pacific Palisades, which has been listed for sale multiple times over the past few years but remains unsold.
