A 13-year-old girl has tragically died after being pulled from the River Wharfe in the Yorkshire Dales National Park, despite heroic rescue attempts by members of the public. The incident occurred near Burnsall in the Skipton area on Sunday evening, and the girl later succumbed to her injuries in hospital.
Rescue Efforts and Police Statement
Emergency services were called to the scene at around 6:30 pm after reports of the girl struggling in the water. Bystanders managed to pull her out and attempted resuscitation before an air ambulance arrived. She was airlifted to hospital for urgent treatment, but medical staff could not save her. North Yorkshire Police expressed gratitude to the public who assisted and stated, 'Our thoughts remain with her family at this very distressing time.' The force has not yet released the girl's identity.
Ongoing Search for Missing Boy
Meanwhile, in South Yorkshire, police are continuing their search for an 11-year-old boy who went missing in the River Don on Saturday. Officers were called to Ferry Boat Lane in Mexborough at around 8 pm, with assistance from the National Police Air Service, Yorkshire Ambulance Service, and South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue. The boy has not been found, and his family is being supported. Police have urged the public not to join the search independently for safety reasons.
