Channel Nine is reportedly finalising a new presenting line-up for Weekend Today, with Jayne Azzopardi and Clint Stanaway poised to become the permanent co-anchors. The move follows the departure of Belinda Russell, who announced her exit earlier this month.
Azzopardi and Stanaway have been filling in as hosts since the start of the year. According to The Australian, the network is close to making a formal announcement. The shake-up comes just two months after the weekday edition of Today welcomed Sarah Abo as a host.
The previous Weekend Today line-up featured Belinda Russell and Charles Croucher, who stepped down after being promoted to Nine's political editor. The future of entertainment reporter Richard Wilkins remains uncertain, as his role on the show has been reduced in recent weeks.
Russell, 44, announced her departure via Instagram on March 5, stating her time on Weekend Today had come to an end. She did not provide a reason for leaving and received no on-air send-off. A Nine spokesperson confirmed she remains a valued member of the 9News team.
