Six teenagers have been arrested following a racially aggravated assault that left a 72-year-old man with serious facial and arm injuries in Willenhall Memorial Park near Walsall, West Midlands.
Details of the Incident
The attack occurred at around 6pm on Sunday, May 24, when the pensioner was assaulted in the park. He was rushed to hospital for treatment but has since been discharged. Four other individuals were also injured during the incident, which detectives are treating as racially aggravated.
Arrests and Police Response
Six teenage males, aged between 16 and 18, were arrested in connection with the attack. They remain in custody for questioning. Superintendent Gareth Mason condemned the violence, stating: 'We understand the seriousness of this incident and the concern it has caused in the community. Any form of hate crime will not be tolerated and we take every report extremely seriously.'
Detectives are keeping the victim and his family informed and are providing support through the investigation. Neighbourhood officers have increased patrols in the area and are engaging with community members and local partners to address concerns.

West Midlands Police are urging anyone with information to come forward. A force spokesperson said: 'We've made a number of arrests after a man was assaulted in Willenhall Memorial Park. The 72-year-old man sustained injuries to his face and arm and was taken to hospital. Thankfully he has now been discharged. Four other people were also assaulted, which is forming part of our investigation.'
