Teen dies in Bristol crash after police pursuit; teen arrested

A teenage boy has died following a two-car crash in Bristol that occurred after a short police pursuit. The collision took place shortly after 4am on Sunday, October 25, on the A37 Wells Road at its junction with Airport Road and Wootton Park, involving a white Nissan Juke and a black Audi S3, both driven by members of the public.

Fatal Collision and Arrest

The crash followed a short pursuit involving an unmarked police vehicle and the white Nissan. The teenage boy, a passenger in the Nissan, died at the scene. Three other people were taken to hospital with injuries not believed to be life-threatening, including two teenage passengers from the Nissan and the man driving the Audi.

A 17-year-old boy was later arrested at a residential property on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving. He was taken to hospital for assessment before being discharged and remains in police custody.

Police Investigation and Referral

Specialist officers have informed the family of the boy who died and offered them support. Avon and Somerset Police's Professional Standards Unit has been notified, and a mandatory referral has been made to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) because the death followed police contact.

Enquiries into the circumstances of the collision are at an early stage. Pending any decision by the IOPC, the investigation is being overseen by a detective inspector from the force's Major Crime Investigation Team.

Road Reopened and Appeal for Witnesses

The road was closed while officers investigated the collision and vehicles were recovered. It reopened shortly after 4pm. Police are appealing for witnesses and anyone with dashcam or other footage that could assist the investigation. Anyone with information is asked to call 101, quoting reference 5226347807.
