A teenage boy has died following a collision between two vehicles on the A37 Wells Road in Bristol, which occurred shortly after a brief police pursuit. The crash took place just after 4am on Sunday, October 25, and involved a white Nissan Juke and a black Audi S3, both driven by members of the public.
Details of the Incident
The collision happened after a short pursuit involving an unmarked police vehicle and the white Nissan. The teenage boy, who was a passenger in the Nissan, was pronounced dead at the scene. Three other people were taken to hospital with injuries not believed to be life-threatening.
Among those hospitalised were two teenage passengers from the Nissan and the male driver of the Audi. A 17-year-old boy was subsequently arrested at a residential address on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving. He was taken to hospital for a medical assessment before being discharged and remains in police custody.
Police Response and Investigation
Specialist officers have informed the family of the deceased boy and are providing support. Avon and Somerset Police's Professional Standards Unit has been notified, and a mandatory referral has been submitted to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) because the death occurred following police contact.
An investigation into the incident remains ongoing. Pending any decision by the IOPC, a detective inspector from the force's Major Crime Investigation Team is overseeing the inquiry.
