Piers Morgan has asked two blunt questions on social media following reports that Meghan Markle was sent a letter in 2019 by Thomas Markle's ex-wife regarding allegations made against her father. The details of the letter have not been disclosed.
The development comes as Meghan's father, 82, faces an investigation for allegedly being in possession of child abuse images at his home in the Philippines. His son, Thomas Jr., claims he found several images at his father's house and reported them to local authorities, according to The Sun. Thomas Sr has denied all allegations against him, calling them "sick lies" to the Daily Mail.
Morgan's Response to the Letter
Referencing the letter, Piers posted on social media: "Hmmmm… if true, this makes it even more inexplicable that nothing was done at the time. The letter should be published so we can see exactly what claims were made."
One follower responded: "You supported him," as Piers replied: "Yes, and if he turns out to have been a child abuser, I will obviously condemn him unreservedly. But unlike the police and the Sussexes, I wasn’t tipped off he might be, eight years ago. Why was nothing done? Why was nothing said? These are big questions that need answers."
Meghan's Statement
Meghan issued a statement on Friday, saying she had been made aware of a letter sent to British police in 2019 and other authorities that "made troubling and disturbing allegations against my father and I was given assurances that these were being investigated."
The statement continued: "I hope it can now be understood that, despite certain media publications’ distortion over the years, any distance from my father and my choice to not allow him to have contact with our children, was for one reason: to protect them," the mom of two added. "I trusted that the authorities were doing the same for other families. My thoughts are with any children who may have been harmed."
Thomas Markle's Denial
Thomas has since spoken out about the claims to the Daily Mail, saying he "will do whatever it takes" to clear his name. He added: "I have never had sex with anyone under the age of 18. I like Asian women but that is not a crime."
