A quiet street in Sydney's western suburbs became the scene of a vicious crime this week, as a 20-year-old man was left fighting for his life following a brutal daylight stabbing.
The incident, which sent shockwaves through the Mount Druitt community, occurred on Tuesday afternoon on Northcott Road in Blackett. Emergency services were called to the scene just after 4:15 PM following reports of a serious assault.
Upon arrival, police and paramedics discovered a young man with critical stab wounds. NSW Ambulance inspectors confirmed the victim sustained multiple lacerations to his body during the alleged attack.
Critical Care Response
In a desperate race to save the victim's life, medical crews performed immediate critical care procedures at the scene. The severity of his injuries necessitated a high-level response, with a rescue helicopter airlifting the man to Westmead Hospital under police escort.
He underwent emergency surgery and was reported to be in a critical but stable condition following the operation.
Swift Police Action
NSW Police launched an immediate investigation, with officers from the Mt Druitt Police Area Command establishing a crime scene. Their investigation led to the arrest of a 19-year-old man at a home on Northcott Road a short time later.
The suspect, identified as Zac McRae, was taken to Mount Druitt Police Station where he was formally charged with wounding a person with intent to murder.
Court Appearance and Community Impact
McRae faced Parramatta Bail Court on Wednesday, where he was formally refused bail. The matter was adjourned to appear before Mount Druitt Local Court on October 10th.
The violent incident has left the local community reeling, with residents expressing shock that such a brazen attack could occur in their neighbourhood in broad daylight. The investigation remains ongoing as police work to determine the circumstances that led to the violent confrontation.
