Mother's Day, traditionally a celebration of maternal bonds, became a scene of unspeakable violence in Shannon, Mississippi, when a son's visit ended with his mother's brutal death. Molly J. Gladney, 66, welcomed her estranged son, Antonio Gladney, into her home on May 14, 2017, after he arrived bearing flowers and a card—a gesture that masked a deadly intent.

Antonio Gladney, a career criminal with a history of incarceration, had been estranged from his mother for years.
