Dorset Police have launched an investigation following a report that a woman was raped on a beach in Bournemouth. The alleged incident occurred on Boscombe beach at approximately 10pm on Thursday, 7 May 2026.
Details of the Incident
The victim, described as being in her 40s, reported to police that she was assaulted by a man on the sandy shoreline near Boscombe Pier. Authorities have since established a cordon on the sand adjacent to the pier to facilitate forensic examinations and other investigative work.
Specially trained officers are providing support to the woman while gathering further details about the attack. On Friday, police personnel were observed combing the waterfront area as part of the ongoing inquiry. Residents have been advised to anticipate a heightened police presence in the vicinity as the investigation progresses.
Police Statement
A spokesperson for Dorset Police stated: 'We received a report that a man had raped a woman on Boscombe beach at around 10pm on Thursday 7 May 2026. An investigation is underway and detectives are speaking with the victim to provide support and establish the full circumstances of the incident.'
The spokesperson added: 'A cordon has been put in place to allow for enquiries to be carried out and there will be an increased police presence in the area as the investigation continues. No arrests have been made.'
