Police Car Damaged by Suspected Stolen Van Near Church

Northumbria Police are investigating after a police car was damaged by a suspected stolen van that was later found abandoned near a church in Widdrington. The incident occurred in the early hours of Sunday, May 31, when officers on patrol in Northumberland spotted a white Ford Transit van believed to have been stolen from the Scottish Borders.

Collision with Police Vehicle

As officers approached in a marked police vehicle, the van reversed into the patrol car, causing significant damage. The collision happened just after 4am on the road between the A1 at Causey Park and Chevington Moor Crossroads. No injuries were reported.

The van then left the scene. It was located a short time later, at around 4.20am, just off the A1068 near Widdrington Holy Trinity Church. It is understood to have travelled through Widdrington Station before coming to a stop close to the church.
