Peter Falconio's dad on killer's possible release

The father of Peter Falconio, the British backpacker brutally murdered in the Australian outback over two decades ago, has shared his heartbreak as his son's killer may soon walk free.

Luciano Falconio, now 80, expressed his devastation after learning that Bradley Murdoch, the man convicted of his son's murder, could be released from prison in the coming years. "It's like losing Peter all over again," he said.

Peter Falconio, then 28, vanished while travelling with his girlfriend Joanne Lees in 2001. His body was never found, but Murdoch was later convicted of the crime and sentenced to life imprisonment.

Now, with Murdoch eligible for parole in 2028, Luciano fears justice may never truly be served. "He took my son's life and left us with nothing but pain," he told reporters. "How can someone like that ever deserve freedom?"

The case remains one of Australia's most notorious crimes, shocking the world with its brutality. Despite extensive searches, Peter's remains were never recovered, leaving his family without closure.

Joanne Lees, who narrowly escaped the attack, has also spoken about the trauma she endured. "It's something you never fully recover from," she said in a past interview.

As Murdoch's potential release looms, the Falconio family continues to fight for justice, urging authorities to keep him behind bars. "Peter deserves that much," Luciano said.
