Paedophile Sentenced for Grooming Teenager After Deceiving About Age

A dangerous paedophile who lied about his age to groom a 13-year-old girl has been jailed after a court heard his actions left the teenager worn down by his sexual advances. Oliver Vause, 30, from Riddlesden near Keighley, was sentenced to four years and eight months in prison at Bradford Crown Court.

Deliberate and Manipulative Behaviour

The court was told that Vause's conduct was described as deliberate, persistent, manipulative, and sexually motivated. He repeatedly messaged the victim in a sexual manner and attempted to arrange an in-person meeting, all while fully aware she was only 13 years old.

Judge Nadim emphasised that the jury plainly rejected Vause's claim that the conversations were innocent role-play. Nothing about your conduct was innocent, the judge stated, adding that the victim was left frightened, overwhelmed, and compelled to comply with his demands.

Graphic Evidence and Additional Charges

Evidence presented in court revealed that Vause sent the girl pictures of his erect penis and steered their dialogue into explicit sexual territory. He also pressured her to send him a photograph of herself.

In addition to grooming offences, Vause was found guilty of:

  • Inciting a child into sexual activity
  • Participating in sexual communications with a child
  • Possessing extreme pornography involving bestiality
  • Breaching a Sexual Harm Prevention Order

Pattern of Grooming and Risk Assessment

The judge noted that Vause had used online communications to entrap and sexualise a child, demonstrating a clear pattern of grooming behaviour. The extreme pornographic images in his possession raised serious concerns about the nature of his sexual deviance and the risk he poses to the public.

They demonstrate how far removed you are from anything resembling normal sexual behaviour, Judge Nadim told Vause, declaring him a significant risk of harm to the public despite mitigation arguments that the offending occurred over a short period.

Sentencing and Future Restrictions

Alongside his prison sentence, Vause must register as a sex offender and has been made subject to a 15-year Sexual Harm Prevention Order. The court heard that Vause remains in denial about his apparent sexual attraction to children, underscoring the ongoing danger he presents.

This case highlights the severe consequences of online grooming and the judicial system's commitment to protecting vulnerable young people from predatory behaviour.
