A New South Wales police officer has been formally charged with assault following an incident at a pro-Palestine demonstration in Sydney that left a woman with a significant eye injury.
Senior Constable Hannah Thomas, attached to the Public Order and Riot Squad, is facing allegations of common assault and assault occasioning actual bodily harm. The charges stem from an event during a protest outside the Town Hall on the evening of September 21.

The matter came to light after NSW Police received a complaint regarding officer conduct during the protest. According to statements, a 32-year-old woman sustained an eye injury requiring medical treatment following interactions with police.
Internal investigators from the Professional Standards Command examined the incident before referring their findings to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions. This independent review resulted in the decision to proceed with charges against the officer.
