A man in his 50s has died following a motorbike crash on the A696 north of Otterburn in Northumberland on Sunday afternoon. Northumbria Police confirmed the incident involved a single vehicle – a black and green Kawasaki motorcycle.
The motorcycle was travelling southbound when it left the carriageway and collided with a barrier. Emergency services attended, but the man was pronounced dead at the scene. His next of kin have been informed.
Police Investigation and Witness Appeal
Northumbria Police's roads policing unit has launched an investigation. Sergeant Andy McNally said: “This is an incredibly tragic incident where a man has lost his life. The thoughts of everyone here at Northumbria Police are with his loved ones.”
“Our investigation is underway, and we are now appealing for further witnesses who we have not yet spoken with to come forward. We believe the Kawasaki may have travelled from the Scotland borders area before the collision occurred, and we’re keen to hear from anyone who might’ve seen this vehicle travelling at any point of Sunday.”
Possible Group of Motorcycles
Sgt McNally added: “It’s also believed the Kawasaki motorcycle may have been travelling alongside three other bikes at other points of the day – which may assist motorists to identify if they came across it.” Officers are aware of the busy nature of the road and believe many motorists will have passed the bike.
Police are particularly keen to hear from anyone with CCTV or dashcam footage. Anyone with information can contact Northumbria Police via social media, live chat, or report forms on the Force's website, or by calling 101, quoting reference number NP-20260712-0882.
