The city of Minneapolis is grappling with shock and grief following a targeted shooting on Wednesday that unfolded across the grounds of a church and an affiliated school. The attack has left one woman dead and two men fighting for their lives in what authorities are investigating as a deliberate act.
The Hennepin County Medical Examiner's Office has identified the deceased victim as 69-year-old Robin Westman of Maple Grove. Westman was a dedicated volunteer at the church, known for her unwavering commitment to the community.
The violence erupted around 1:15 pm at the Westminster Presbyterian Church and the adjacent Westminster Academy, a private Christian school. Police Chief Brian O'Hara confirmed the shooter, who remains at large, specifically targeted the victims. "This was not a random act. This was not an active shooter situation," O'Hara stated, emphasising the targeted nature of the assault.
A Community in Lockdown
The incident triggered an immediate and massive police response. The school was placed under a secure lockdown, ensuring the safety of students and staff inside while law enforcement secured the perimeter. Panicked parents gathered nearby, awaiting news of their children's safety.
One of the injured men was found outside the church's office, while the second was discovered near the school's athletic fields. Robin Westman was pronounced dead at the scene, her life tragically cut short.
