Murder Probe Launched After Body Found in Middlesbrough Woodland

Cleveland Police have launched a murder investigation after the body of Tomasz Dembler, a 39-year-old father, was discovered in woods near Flatts Lane, Middlesbrough, on Monday. The victim, originally from Poland but a UK resident for over 20 years, was formally identified on Thursday.

Detective Chief Inspector Matt Murphy-King confirmed that the homicide team is pursuing significant lines of inquiry. Officers believe Dembler may have been killed in a targeted attack between mid-March and the discovery of his body on 12 April. The father of an 11-year-old girl had recently lived in Middlesbrough, with prior links to Darlington.

Police have cordoned off a 100-metre area of Normanby country park, where forensic teams and search dogs are combing for evidence. DCI Murphy-King appealed for anyone who saw or had contact with Dembler during March and April to come forward, emphasising that even small details could prove crucial.

“The investigation is gathering pace,” Murphy-King said. “We are determined to bring those responsible to justice for Tomasz and his family.” Officers are also working to trace Dembler’s movements in the months and days leading up to his death.
