A 67-year-old man has been charged with murder following the grim discovery of a woman's body near a major freeway in Melbourne, believed to be that of missing mother Eva Lasrini. The 53-year-old Dandenong resident was reported missing to police on Thursday after she failed to board a scheduled flight to Bali, where she was due to visit her daughter.
Disappearance Deemed Suspicious
Eva Lasrini was last seen around noon on Wednesday. Her phone was later switched off, and she did not respond to calls or messages from her family, which authorities described as highly out of character. Police quickly deemed the circumstances of her disappearance suspicious, prompting an immediate investigation by the Missing Person Squad.
Arrest at Melbourne Airport
Following intensive inquiries, officers arrested a 67-year-old man at Melbourne Airport on Friday afternoon. The arrest occurred shortly before he was due to board an international flight. The suspect, from Patterson Lakes, was taken into custody as part of the ongoing investigation into Ms Lasrini's disappearance.
Body Found Near Princes Freeway
On Saturday afternoon, detectives made a tragic discovery near the intersection of Little River Road and the Princes Freeway at Little River, approximately 80 kilometres south-west of Melbourne. A woman's body was found at the scene, and while formal identification is pending, it is strongly believed to be that of Eva Lasrini.
Scene Examination and Charges
Major crime officers spent much of the night meticulously examining the scene where the body was found. Subsequently, the 67-year-old Patterson Lakes man was charged with one count of murder. He has been remanded in custody and is scheduled to appear in court on Sunday.
