Metropolitan Police detectives have opened a murder investigation following a fatal shooting in north-west London on Friday night. The victim, a 55-year-old man, was pronounced dead at the scene on West End Close in the Stonebridge area of Brent.
Police Response and Scene Investigation
Officers were called to the residential street at 9.35pm on Friday, 19 December 2025. Despite the efforts of emergency services, the man could not be saved. No arrests had been made by Saturday afternoon, leaving the shooter at large.
Detective Chief Inspector Neil John, from the Met's specialist crime team, sought to reassure the public. "There's no doubt this incident will cause concern in the local community and more widely, but we have increased patrols in the area," he stated. He emphasised that the investigation was a priority and that enquiries were "well underway" to determine the circumstances.
Major Road Closure and Local Reaction
In the wake of the killing, police cordoned off a significant section of the A404 Brentfield road between Twybridge Way and Wyborne Way on Saturday. A forensic tent was visible within the cordon as officers, supported by sniffer dogs, conducted a meticulous search for evidence.
Local Labour MP for Brent East, Dawn Butler, expressed her sadness at the news. She urged anyone with information to come forward and assist the police investigation.
The incident has heightened anxiety among some residents and business owners. One local businessman, a former police officer who wished to remain anonymous, told of his declining sense of security. "[It] doesn't feel safe anymore," he said, revealing he had installed security cameras for the first time in seven years due to rising concerns about crime.
Appeal for Witnesses and Information
Police believe a large group of people was congregated nearby at the time of the shooting and are particularly keen to hear from them. They are also appealing for any dashcam footage or other information that could aid the inquiry.
The victim's next of kin are being supported by specialist officers. "Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the victim at this incredibly difficult time," DCI John added.
Anyone with information is urged to contact the Metropolitan Police on 101, quoting reference CAD 8120/19DEC25. Information can also be provided anonymously to the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 111 555.
