A man has been handed a significant prison sentence for a brutal sexual assault on an unconscious woman outside a popular Westminster nightclub, in a case that has sent shockwaves through the local community.
Dawid Wiza, 24, was sentenced to nine years behind bars at Southwark Crown Court after being found guilty of rape. The court heard harrowing details of how the predator targeted his vulnerable victim in the early hours of the morning.
Chilling Details of the Attack
The attack occurred in the heart of Westminster, just off Strutton Ground, where the victim had become separated from her friends. CCTV footage presented in court showed Wiza callously dragging the unconscious woman into a secluded doorway before carrying out the assault.
Detectives from the Metropolitan Police's Specialist Crime Command described how Wiza showed complete disregard for his victim's welfare, leaving her in a vulnerable state before casually walking away from the scene.
Police Investigation and Arrest
The investigation was launched after the victim, who had no memory of the attack, reported the crime to police. Forensic evidence and extensive CCTV review quickly identified Wiza as the perpetrator.
Detective Constable Jack Earl, the investigating officer, stated: "This was a horrific attack on a defenseless woman who was in no state to protect herself. Wiza saw an opportunity to exploit her vulnerability and took it."
Court Sentencing and Impact
In addition to his prison term, Wiza was placed on the sex offenders register for life and made subject to a restraining order. Judge David Tomlinson emphasized the severity of the crime and the lasting trauma inflicted upon the victim.
The case has highlighted ongoing concerns about women's safety in nightlife areas across London, with authorities urging increased vigilance and reporting of suspicious behavior.
