A man in his 80s has died after being hit by a van in a supermarket car park in Knotty Ash. Emergency services were called to Sainsbury's car park on East Prescot Road at around 3.40pm on Saturday, October 10, following reports of a serious crash involving an orange van and a pedestrian.
The man was taken to hospital for treatment but, despite the best efforts of medical staff, died from his injuries on Monday, October 26. Police said the van driver stopped at the scene and is assisting with their enquiries.
Investigation underway
Enquiries into the crash are ongoing, and officers are appealing for anyone who witnessed the incident or saw the events leading up to it to come forward.
Detective Sergeant Kurt Timpson, the Lead Investigating Officer from the Merseyside Police Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: "My thoughts are with the man's family at this desperately sad time."
"We have launched an investigation and our priority is to ensure we get answers for his family and establish the facts about what happened."
Appeal for witnesses
The car park was busy at the time of the collision and, while police already have some witness accounts and CCTV footage, officers are asking people to cast their minds back to October 10.
"If you saw the collision or feel you have information that may help our enquiries, please get in touch. Equally, if you have any additional footage, it could help us to establish exactly how this collision took place," Detective Sergeant Timpson added.
