A quiet area of Epping Forest became the scene of a horrific crime this week, as a woman was discovered with what police are describing as "life-changing" injuries.
Essex Police were called to the scene in the early hours of Tuesday morning, following reports of a serious assault. Officers and emergency services rushed to the area, where they found the victim and provided immediate critical care.
The 38-year-old suspect, Reece Jackson of Barnard Close in Epping, was swiftly apprehended at the scene. He has since been charged with attempted murder and appeared at Chelmsford Magistrates' Court on Wednesday.
District Judge Christopher Williams remanded Jackson into custody ahead of his next appearance at Chelmsford Crown Court on Friday, 7 June.
