A man has been arrested in Magaluf after allegedly kissing a four-year-old British boy in a hotel swimming pool, leaving holidaymakers and the child's mother stunned.
The incident occurred on Wednesday afternoon, May 20, at an unnamed hotel in the Majorcan party resort. According to well-placed sources, the man approached the youngster, hugged him, and kissed him on the face in front of other pool-goers.
The boy's horrified mother immediately confronted the man, prompting him to stop. Several witnesses alerted hotel staff, who then called local police from Calvia Town Hall, which covers the Magaluf area.
Officers took statements from witnesses and the child's parents before arresting the suspect on suspicion of sexual assault. He spent a night in a police cell and was escorted to court yesterday afternoon by two Civil Guard officers. He appeared in handcuffs, wearing the same clothes he had on when arrested.
The hearing was held behind closed doors, so it is unclear whether the judge granted bail or ordered him to be remanded in custody. The British family has since returned home, though it is unknown if they cut their holiday short.
Earlier this month, police arrested a van driver who abducted a young British tourist on Palma's Paseo Maritimo and sexually assaulted her. The suspect allegedly forced her into his vehicle after spotting her walking back to her hotel. The woman escaped when the driver stopped at a red light and witnesses intervened. A photograph of the suspect's licence plate helped police locate and arrest him.
The age and nationality of the Magaluf suspect have not been disclosed.
