Dyfed-Powys Police declared a major incident following a collision involving a public bus on the A484 near the Kidwelly roundabout (Parc y Bocs) at approximately 12:20 BST on 23 June 2026. All passengers have been safely removed from the bus and are receiving care at a rest centre set up at the John Burns centre.
Emergency Response and Road Closures
The road remains closed between the Kidwelly roundabout at Parc y Bocs and Llandyfaelog, and is expected to stay closed for an extended period while emergency services conduct their response and investigations. Motorists are advised to find alternative routes. Traffic monitoring systems report long delays in the area.
A local shop worker told WalesOnline that the incident occurred approximately half a mile to a mile from the Parc y Bocs roundabout. Witnesses reported seeing the bus flipped onto its back or side. Two air ambulances landed at the scene, alongside paramedics, fire services, and police.
Injuries and Health Board Response
Sources reported at least 26 people injured. Hywel Dda Health Board confirmed its emergency departments are busy due to the incident, warning of longer waiting times as those with the greatest need are treated first. They urged the public to use NHS 111 Wales for non-emergency care.
Official Statements
Dame Nia Griffith, MP for Llanelli, expressed her thoughts for those involved and reiterated the request for the public to stay away from the area. Welsh Government minister Heledd Fychan provided an update in the Senedd, stating that the Deputy Minister for Transport will update members once further information is available.
A full statement from Dyfed-Powys Police confirmed that all passengers have been safely removed and are receiving appropriate care. A rest centre at the John Burns centre has been established to ensure their comfort and safety. The road closure remains in effect as enquiries continue.
