Laser Attack Targets Rescue Helicopter in Iconic James Bond Glen

Police have launched an urgent appeal for witnesses following a dangerous laser strike on a search and rescue helicopter in the cinematic landscape of Glen Etive. The incident occurred around 9.10pm on Friday, when a laser beam was recklessly directed at the aircraft as it assisted the Glencoe Mountain Rescue Team in the Glen Etive area.

Reckless Endangerment in Famous Highland Glen

The light appeared to originate from the eastern end of Glencoe, near the Kingshouse Hotel. Officers attended the scene promptly but were unable to trace the individual responsible. Enquiries are ongoing as authorities work to identify the perpetrator of this criminal act.

Sergeant Brian Heriot issued a stern warning: 'Shining a laser light at any aircraft is incredibly dangerous and whoever is responsible has shown a total disregard for safety. Aircraft should always be able to operate safely and without distraction.'

He emphasized that such incidents constitute criminal acts that pose extreme danger. The public is urged to contact police immediately with any information about this incident or if they witness lasers being shone at aircraft.

Iconic Filming Location Compromised

The laser beam was aimed directly at the helicopter while it was providing critical support to the Glencoe Mountain Rescue Team during their operation. This occurred in Glen Etive, which has become a must-visit destination for tourists eager to stand in the exact filming locations used in both Braveheart and the James Bond blockbuster Skyfall.

Visitors to Glencoe particularly seek out the famous 007 film locations at Glen Etive. The Bond film was the third to star Daniel Craig as the fictional MI6 agent and featured Judi Dench in her final appearance as M. In the iconic scene from the 2012 film, Dame Judi Dench's M and Daniel Craig's 007 stand side by side looking out over the breathtaking landscape of Glen Etive.

This reckless laser attack not only endangered lives but also disrupted rescue operations in one of Scotland's most celebrated natural settings. The incident highlights the serious consequences of such dangerous behavior in areas where emergency services regularly operate.
