Police have launched an urgent appeal for witnesses following a dangerous laser strike on a search and rescue helicopter in the cinematic landscape of Glen Etive. The incident occurred around 9.10pm on Friday, when a laser beam was recklessly directed at the aircraft as it assisted the Glencoe Mountain Rescue Team in the Glen Etive area.
Reckless Endangerment in Famous Highland Glen
The light appeared to originate from the eastern end of Glencoe, near the Kingshouse Hotel. Officers attended the scene promptly but were unable to trace the individual responsible. Enquiries are ongoing as authorities work to identify the perpetrator of this criminal act.
Sergeant Brian Heriot issued a stern warning: 'Shining a laser light at any aircraft is incredibly dangerous and whoever is responsible has shown a total disregard for safety. Aircraft should always be able to operate safely and without distraction.'
He emphasized that such incidents constitute criminal acts that pose extreme danger. The public is urged to contact police immediately with any information about this incident or if they witness lasers being shone at aircraft.
