Michael Ormandy, 34, was found guilty of murdering his girlfriend Rebekah Campbell, 32, at Liverpool Crown Court on Wednesday. After the verdict, he shouted at her family: 'I know where yous all live you daft c***s.'
Ormandy stabbed Campbell 27 times at her flat in Knowsley Heights, Huyton, in April. The former cage fighter and boxer claimed self-defence, but the jury rejected his account. Campbell suffered 18 stab wounds and nine slashes, collapsing outside her building.
The court heard that Campbell had pleaded 'get out, go away Mick' as Ormandy burst in. Three days earlier, he had punched her, leaving her with a black eye. Hours before the murder, he had sex with another woman and said he was 'going to Liverpool to sort something out'.
After the attack, Ormandy called police claiming to have a 'suicide vest' and threatened to 'blow everyone up'. He later remarked that Campbell 'must have stabbed herself'. The judge noted that Ormandy habitually carried knives, a 'substantial aggravating feature'.
Sentencing is scheduled for Thursday morning. As Ormandy was led to the cells, still clapping, Campbell's loved ones waved 'bye bye'.
