A security guard who was killed in a shooting at the San Diego Islamic Center saved as many as 140 children through his heroic actions, according to police.
Heroic Actions of the Guard
The guard, identified as Amin Abdullah, was fatally shot on Monday after two teenage gunmen stormed the mosque and opened fire. San Diego Police Chief Scott Wahl told reporters on Tuesday that Abdullah immediately recognized the threat to everyone at the mosque and engaged the attackers in a gunfight.
“You can see the security guard reach for his radio and put out the lockdown protocol. The security guard then continued to engage in a gun battle with these two suspects,” Wahl said.
Chief Wahl emphasized the impact of Abdullah’s actions: “His actions, without a doubt, delayed, distracted, and ultimately deterred these two individuals from gaining access to the greater areas of the mosque, where as many as 140 kids were within 15 feet of these suspects.”
Ongoing Investigation
This is a developing story, and authorities continue to investigate the incident. Further updates are expected as more information becomes available.
