Beloved Great-Grandmother Dies Following Supermarket Car Park Incident

A community in Northumberland is in mourning after a beloved great-grandmother died from injuries sustained in a collision at a Morrisons supermarket car park.

Alicia Ternent, 69, was airlifted to hospital following the incident, which occurred outside the Morrisons store in Alnwick at approximately 1.45pm on October 29. Despite medical efforts, the local resident sadly passed away from her injuries on Thursday, November 13.

Details of the Tragic Collision

It is understood that Alicia was using a white walking stick at the time of the collision. Police have confirmed that the incident involved a white Mercedes Sprinter van.

The driver of the vehicle remained at the scene following the collision. Authorities have also revealed that Alicia had travelled to the supermarket in a blue Suzuki Swift, which was parked in a disabled bay prior to the incident.

Family's Heartbreaking Tribute

Alicia's devastated family have released a moving statement paying tribute to their cherished relative.

They described her as "a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother" who "lived life to the full and was very active, often enjoying holidays and getting out and about with her family and friends."

The family expressed their profound shock and grief, stating: "Losing Alicia has been completely unexpected and, as a family, we are completely devastated she is no longer with us."

Police Investigation and Witness Appeal

The case is now being handled by the Northumbria Police Collision Investigation Unit. Officers have renewed their appeal for information.

Sergeant Greg Huntley extended his sympathies to the family: "I'd like to extend my deepest sympathies to Alicia's loved ones while they navigate their loss. We continue to offer them our full support through specially trained family liaison officers."

He emphasised the importance of witness accounts, noting that the area was "busy with lots of passers-by at the time" of the incident. Police are urging anyone with information, CCTV, or dashcam footage to come forward.
