Gold Coast End-of-Life Business Under Scrutiny After Veterinary Drug Found in Body
Gold Coast End-of-Life Business Probed After Death

Queensland Police have launched a major investigation into a Gold Coast business operating in the end-of-life sector, following the discovery of a powerful veterinary drug in the body of a deceased man.

The investigation, described as "complex and sensitive," was triggered after the substance pentobarbitone—a drug used for animal euthanasia—was found during a post-mortem examination. The discovery has raised significant alarms within the Queensland Police Service.

Urgent Public Health Warning

Detectives from the Gold Coast Criminal Investigation Branch are leading the probe and have issued an urgent warning to the public. They strongly advised anyone who may have obtained substances from such businesses not to consume them, emphasising the extreme danger posed by these unregulated and potent chemicals.

While specific details of the business remain under wraps to protect the integrity of the investigation, police confirmed they are examining its operations and any potential links to other recent deaths in the region.

A Complex and Sensitive Investigation

Authorities have been tight-lipped about the exact number of deaths potentially connected to the case. However, they acknowledged they are investigating "a number of sudden deaths" and are working closely with the Queensland Coroner to determine if they are linked to the same source.

The police stressed that their primary concern is public safety. "The substance located is not safe for human consumption," a police spokesperson stated, highlighting the severe and potentially fatal risks associated with its use.

The investigation is ongoing, with forensic teams and specialised officers working to trace the origin of the drug and identify all individuals who may be at risk.
