Seventeen years after his daughter vanished during a family holiday in Portugal, Gerry McCann has spoken of his unwavering hope that Madeleine may still be found alive.
In a poignant new interview, the heartbroken father revealed that recent developments in the case have given him fresh optimism about the possibility of discovering what happened to his daughter, who was just three years old when she disappeared from their holiday apartment in Praia da Luz.
The Night That Changed Everything
The McCann family's world was shattered on May 3rd, 2007, when Madeleine vanished from the Ocean Club resort while her parents dined at a nearby tapas restaurant with friends. Despite one of the most extensive missing person investigations in modern history, the mystery of what happened that night remains unsolved.
"There's absolutely no evidence that Madeleine's come to harm," Gerry McCann stated emphatically. "We still live with the hope that she's out there somewhere."
A Father's Enduring Hope
The Leicester-based cardiologist explained how recent investigative progress has reinforced his belief that the case could still reach a resolution. While careful not to disclose specific details that might compromise the ongoing investigation, McCann conveyed a sense of cautious optimism that has sustained the family through nearly two decades of uncertainty.
"The hope has never gone away," he revealed. "If anything, with some of the recent developments, it's given us more hope that we might finally get some answers."
The Search Continues
The Metropolitan Police's Operation Grange, launched in 2011, continues to pursue leads in what remains an active investigation. German authorities have also been involved since identifying Christian Brückner as a formal suspect in 2022, though no charges have been brought.
Throughout the years, the McCann family has maintained their determination to keep Madeleine's case in the public consciousness, establishing the official 'Find Madeleine' campaign that continues to receive and follow up on potential sightings and information from around the world.
"We've never given up," Gerry affirmed. "And we won't give up until we know what happened to our daughter."
