Fugitive Abu Faye Evades Police After Courtroom Escape

A 26-year-old man who admitted possessing drugs has been on the run for nearly two weeks after dramatically fleeing a courtroom in south London. Abu Faye, from Hackney in north London, was captured on CCTV escaping from Croydon Crown Court during his hearing on March 17.

Courtroom Drama Unfolds

Faye had been facing serious drug-related charges, including five counts of possession with intent to supply. During the proceedings, he denied those charges but pleaded guilty to five separate counts of possession of both Class A and Class B drugs.

Following his guilty plea, the judge moved to remand Faye in custody. However, just after 4pm that day, the defendant made a sudden dash from the courtroom, exiting the building at approximately 16:01 hours.

Police Launch Urgent Manhunt

The Metropolitan Police were promptly informed by the prison service about Faye's escape. Detectives have since been conducting urgent enquiries, including detailed analysis of CCTV footage, in a determined effort to locate the fugitive.

A police spokesperson stated: 'Police are asking for the public’s help to trace a man who has absconded from court. Faye was captured on CCTV leaving the court at 16:01hrs and fled on foot. He also has links to Penge and Cambridge.'

The force has issued a clear warning to members of the public: if they see Faye, they should not approach him under any circumstances. Instead, anyone with information is urged to call 999 immediately, quoting the reference CAD 4966/17MARCH.

Ongoing Investigation

Met detectives are working at pace to track down Faye, who remains at large. The case highlights the challenges law enforcement faces when defendants attempt to evade justice during court proceedings.

Faye's escape from a crown court, a location typically associated with high security, has raised questions about procedural safeguards. The Metropolitan Police continue to appeal for any information that could assist in his apprehension.
