A footballer who aspired to play in the FIFA Women's World Cup has been accused of repeatedly raping a 14-year-old boy and sending him explicit images of herself. Oteta Kristina Kitiona, 20, allegedly engaged in sexual activity with the teenager in Utah during 2024 when she was 19 years old.
Allegations and Charges
Kitiona, who played for Samoa's unsuccessful qualifying squad for the 2027 FIFA Women's World Cup earlier this year, faces three counts of unlawful sexual activity with a minor and one count of distributing material harmful to a minor. According to court documents, the abuse occurred over a six-month period before she attended college.
The alleged victim told police that Kitiona would visit his house two to three times a week between June and October 2024 to have sex with him. The relationship reportedly paused when she left for Bellevue College in Washington state but resumed when she returned home a month later.
Explicit Content Sent to Victim
During the gap, Kitiona allegedly sent the boy explicit photos and videos, which he described as showing her "head to toe clean, naked." She also encouraged him to send nude images of himself, including while he was in the shower. The age of consent in Utah is 18.
The charges were filed two months after Kitiona represented the Samoan national women's football team in their World Cup qualifying campaign in February. She is scheduled to appear in court on June 6.
